Maple syrup is a staple in most Canadian households, so when Canada The Store contacted me about using Jakeman's maple syrup, I knew immediately I would be making a traditional side dish: maple bacon carrots! Because the only thing that makes bacon better is maple syrup!

Okay, what is more Canadian than maple syrup? Maybe coffee? I feel every one of us always has a coffee in our hands. That being said, I really do think the most Canadian food is maple syrup (but poutine is definitely up there!) Reviewing Jakeman's maple syrup from Canada The Store was a lot of fun because it truly shows Canadian quality. No review is complete without a recipe, but take my word for it, these maple bacon carrots are NEEDED this holiday season!
Let's get down to it. This stuff is not your typical corn syrup concoction like that famous character we all know. True maple syrup has a different consistency altogether. It is not nearly as thick as the imitation stuff, and you would be surprised how fast the maple syrup pours out of the bottle. It is so satisfying to see because you know it is the real deal. And how cute is that autumn leaf container?! I mean, nothing says Canada more than a giant leaf 🙂
These maple bacon carrots were super easy to make, and are the perfect fall treat. With Canadian Thanksgiving coming up, side dishes are on our minds. Maple bacon carrots combine the deliciousness of sweet and salty, and definitely brings out the comfort of home. Maple bacon is not unfamiliar here, but I like the idea of "making my own." Drizzling some sweet syrup on salty bacon is just a win all around! Just to show you how easy this recipe is, we made a video showing you everything (look at the viscosity of that syrup!)
As a vegetarian, I had to pass on these maple bacon carrots, but the recipe would do just as well without the bacon (gasp!) You definitely would want to drizzle the carrots with an oil of your choosing for the roasting stage, but otherwise, everything else is good to go. Want even sweeter carrots? Add more syrup! We could not help but pour on a bit extra of this Jakeman's syrup, but then again, my daughter and I have the biggest sweet tooth's!
