All the garden tomatoes are coming in and we don’t want any to go to waste! I am pairing up with Hamilton Beach Canada to show off their awesome blender with this homemade fresh tomato sauce! #Hamilton Beach
This is a sponsored post. I was fortunate enough to receive monetary compensation and/or products from Hamilton Beach Canada. Though compensation was received, all opinions are my own and I would not recommend a product that I did not enjoy.
Anyone else have goodies in their garden?!
The pickling cucumbers are coming in rampant and I am sooooo excited to make pickles now that I LOVE dill! Cannot have a burger without those bad boys!
There have also been some zucchinis, English cucumbers, green beans, and jalapenos! The spaghetti squash is my most surprising growth. I did not have any faith that one would make it, let alone a ton! Just waiting on my sweet peppers, ghost peppers, and watermelon!
Now the tomatoes are coming in! Well, I still have not picked any, but you can see the abundance. It is only a matter of time 😉
I actually created this homemade tomato sauce way back in March! I was planning ahead and knew that I wanted a homemade fresh tomato sauce to share.
Around that time I was fortunate to receive my Hamilton Beach Sound Shield Blender. What a lifesaver!
My husband works shift so more often than not it is myself and my daughter up and about going on with our lives while he is sleeping downstairs. He is a great sleeper so I don’t have a ton of worries about waking him, but I am still mindful of what I am doing.
With Hamilton Beach’s blender, the regular blender noises are softened by the shield. Don’t get me wrong, this blender is not completely silent, but it is very apparent that noise is reduced!
So of course, with my crazy desire to make pizza all the time, I knew it was only time to share a homemade fresh tomato sauce! I say this is more for pasta, however, I use it as pizza sauce, too, with no issues 😉 Maybe my homemade pizza pockets using Hamilton Beach’s stand mixer?!
Dried herbs will work just as well, but I figure if you are already growing tomatoes, you are probably growing herbs 😉 What a difference having them in my garden instead of buying them from the store! No more waste in regards to food and money (especially my basil as it always dies so quick in my fridge!)
Last note!!! I will be on “vacation” for the next week. Not leaving my house so much as just enjoying time off while my husband has his vacation days 🙂 Once I am back I’ll be focusing on back-to-school recipes, along with regular dinner meals (#2meals1recipe is coming back!)
Yields 4 cups
Don't know what to do with all those garden tomatoes?! This fresh homemade tomato sauce is in order!
15 minPrep Time
2 hrCook Time
2 hr, 15 Total Time
Ingredients
- 4 lbs fresh tomatoes (hot house, roma, tomatoes on the vine, etc.) cored and chopped
- 1 tbsp. olive oil
- 1 onion, diced
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 6 large fresh basil leaves
- 2 sprigs fresh thyme
- 4 fresh oregano sprigs
- Salt and pepper
Instructions
- Place a large frying or saute pan over medium heat. Add oil and once shimmering, stir in onion. Cook for 3 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add garlic and cook for another 2 minutes. Stir in tomatoes and simmer for 10 minutes.
- Stir in fresh herbs and continue simmering for as long as you like (I LOVE simmering for hours to get a more concentrated flavour, but even 20 minutes is good.)
- Remove herbs, transfer to blender and puree until smooth.
Notes
Feel free to simmer as long as you want. The longer you go, the more concentrated the flavours will be!
